When most people consider hosting Drupal, which is looking for a reliable host that hope is not going to stop over night. typically is the largest hosting provider trivial running a setup script that will simply load a default install of Drupal.

For me, I always opted to manage my hosting. This meant taking care of configuring, securing and optimizing a dedicated server box or the current trend of using a VPS (virtual private server) which uses virtualization technology to exploit fully all resources of a server really sturdy.

Subsequently, however, while spending a fair amount of time to familiarize yourself with the paint reverse proxy server (which is very beautiful by the way), I decided that I was spending too much time with my "Drupal hosting". I wanted to create more video and more valuable content-enjoy doing it.

There are a good number of intelligent people and companies in the world of Drupal, many of them who provide high quality services for some companies really great.My search for a Drupal hosting company was personally frustrating. While searching, I found some links on the latest "hot new nginx web server" call.I was intrigued.

My research took me to a number of jobs on drupal.org user Omega8cc.For each post, which I ran, it was obvious that Omega8 was doing everything possible to be useful.

This caused me to click the signature of Omega8, which led me to their home page for hosting Drupal. based on my current level of frustration with having accidentally messed up network settings on a mailbox server when you add a new IP address (never lock yourself your server if you can avoid!), I contacted Omega8 and asked to try their services.

Long story short, I couldn't be happier. watch the video to get a real sense of why I am so impressed with this Drupal hosting companies in the world exist. they of Drupal to know who is doing all it can to make Drupal perform as it should.

Drupal Menu system Demystified

There is a mistake I made that few others have done too. The error is flowing in your new Drupal site and populate your menu.Simply add new menu items as a placeholder until you can create or add data. setting the menu path over something like and popular via.

The frustrating part about this is that the menus may not work as expected-at least when waiting CSS menu using the main links (or any other menu) as a hierarchy. Drupal must have something to choose from to create the internal menu.

Drupal is all about two things, the content and management. How to: Drupal workflow & Automation

The definition of a workflow, according to Wikipedia, is a "representation of a sequence of operations".When taken at face value, a workflow is usually something you want to automate Drupal. in other words, what we are talking about is the automation Drupal and my guess is, you'll want to automate things in Drupal, based on certain events.

The part of Drupal automation confusion is the fact that you need to know what works together to achieve this Automation. With modules of workflow, actions, triggers * (* part of Drupal 6 core) and rules, can be quite confusing when it comes to automation.

Put simply, in Drupal 6, you can use the workflow module (which I don't show in the video), but you can also get with the default triggers and actions (as said, already installed with Drupal).However, unless you know, that you must install the workflow module to achieve automation that you're looking for and potentially Triggerunlock module (which if you install the workflow in Drupal 6 is not really necessary), things can get really confused, really fast.

So, besides trying to confuse this with the paragraph above (which I did on purpose), all installation and things do or don't need, I focused more on form rules because it is a one-stop-shop for automation that goes beyond what can be done with triggers, actions, and workflow.

Even though I am a converted to module rules of Drupal, congratulations to John VanDyk (whose book helped me learn even better Drupal) for creating workflows and actions (I started with in Drupal 4.7) and Wolfgang Ziegler to create the module ever powerful rules. I can only hope this video will provide you with almost everything you need to know to automate things so that you can get the final Drupal workflow!

Note: If you are working with Drupal 5, then workflow, actions, and workflow-ng (also by Wolfgang) will give you that you need automation. in most cases all, then installed form token so that you can do things that make the big boys.

Drupal is a powerful publishing system.In fact, it's pretty difficult not to stumble across many modules that will help you create an awesomely powerful publishing platform. Distribtions Drupal, which management News, have already packed a handful of modules that start right off the bat.

If your needs are simple publishing and straight forward, then you may only need a handful of modules uself.

One of the default functionality in Drupal is the baked in review system, which allows you to keep track of all changes to any given node (that is any given piece of content-if you're not familiar with Drupal already talk).

Using this default system, you can easily track what changes to the contents of your site. However, unless you only create the content yourself, you may need to facilitate a review process. it means it can go through many drafts before you're ready to release an upgraded node.

Creating an intermediate Drupal project is simply a matter of using the form save as draft. While the sparse initially interface is a bit confusing, provides the functionality may be exactly what you're looking for if you'd like to contribute updates to a node and save the release process for a higher level of access to more people.

I remember when I started with Drupal.There was only a handful of modules than today. I mean something like 600 or so ...

In fact, there were quite a few, had printed the whole list of all modules Drupal superiors and took home a stack of paper to read about each of them. Fast forward to count module today and it was coming close to 6,000!

Can you say "Holy ton load modules Drupal looking through the Batman!"How do we really know that are good and which are bad?

To get started, keep this in mind. Drupal is open source, and virtually anyone can contribute to the project.While the future of Drupal version control will put some more barriers to entry for anyone presenting potential duplicate modules (thereby preventing the wonderful form of release of shame) still do not know really what modules are coded well and which don't-unless dig into their code.

So, the quick response to this problem on knowing who are the main Drupal modules, is to use/project/usage drupal.org.questo statistics is the only place you can see what modules are used more from multiple sites (at least those reporting to drupal.org).

In this video, I begin to number one and head down to form 50 within usage statistics. I haven't worked with them all, but I am familiar with what do more. Provide an overview of the modules and what within Drupal.

How to: embed SWF support using the form Tools

Yes, we're living in a world full of media (only if you notice the video on the Web page ). In fact, what is the second most popular search engine?This is Bing? No, this is the YouTube of all things (last I heard).

So, all you really need to know, is how to bring the Drupal site up to the media rich standard of the new Web and enable some media modules. Personally, I used a number of them and I am quite comfortable digging around with JavaScript and jQuery, however, there is something to be said for the easy route.

I am using the Flowplayer form on this site now (as of the date of registration), and previously, I used jQuery Media.

It wasn't until recently, where I was avoiding an update for one of my sites podcast, which I decided to try SWF tools module. I had tried in the past, but found it lacking. BUT, not these days.

For audio, I like to use the 1pixelout player, and seeing support for Flowplayer too, "" forced me to try it out.

While really depends on the preference, for if use Flowplayer correct or SWF Tools, sure is nice to have all media that are managed by a form.

The trick is figuring out how to get it working-and this is what this video will help you with!

The Drupal menu system is very smart and on when show menus. knows that when a user has access to the menu, based on roles that the user has and ultimately, the user has permissions.

This is a great feature of Drupal.However, you still need to provide some form of navigation. Out of the box, Drupal provides a navigation menu links and menus in both primary and secondary. No matter which one you choose to use, you can improve this navigation, making it easy for users to get to where they want to go-or even better, help them find the content that may be interested in.

In this video, I discuss in particular the use of two different modules.Dynamic menu of persistent and modules me.

The information that I provide in this video can apply to many other navigation modules. is the module which provides me the magic to make users happy with access to their content. you will find information about specific dynamic persistent Menu and creating a region block based navigation for your site.The advantage of navigation block based (as opposed to html/template based) is that a user admin, with the right permissions, you can check the menu on the contents of their hearts.

One of the longest for any new Drupal site is set up and proof of what users can and cannot do.This is the realm of user permissions and role permissions. I'm guessing you've visited the labyrinth of checkbox-as I like to call it.

This is one of the more frustrating aspects of Drupal permissions screen; with any number of roles beyond a few and with a great collection of forms, the task of managing permissions becomes very dangerous. The potential for "accidentally" controlling a little box that gives the wrong role allows the user access and wrong to do things wrong, wonderment managing permissions Drupal can be unnerving.

Enter my solution to this problem.A collection of modules that extend the level of control, make it easier to concentrate on permissions that matter (compared to what you're setting up at the time) and remove the clutter of vision extended from this Web page.

Flash and its associated players are all the rage (actually were for a long time), except with the iPad that is. Obviously, you can embed the video into your Drupal site in several ways.

You can use an external site like YouTube or blip.TV using the embedded form field or you can implement the videos on your site using the FLV player module in combination with THE JW Player.

I have already discussed how you can use any of the possible flash players (JW player or Flowplayer) in this video on SWFTools. Thus, the next thing was Flowplayer, and it is here that I put together a video on using the Flowplayer API module in combination with the respective and necessary Flowplayer flash player and JavaScript.

Now, you don't have to worry about downloading the Flowplayer JavaScript and Flash files, those are all included with the module API Flowplayer. What is not covered, it shows me in the video, is some cool extended that you get with things like playlists Flowplayer.

Upgrade to Drupal 6

Well I got finally to upgrade to Drupal 6. Luckily everything went very smoothly. While I update was, I began to consolidate all my various Drupal sites in a mult-site configuration. I very much enjoy to update this when I individually on each site.I let you know how it goes on long Sicht.Wir will see much of a time saver as I believe it is.

Also I started 6 modules with some new Drupal so I some handy tutorials very soon should be included.

Install finally with the upgrade, I ended up my Drupal 6 leave, with the default theme Garland.Ich will hopefully change this will be very soon but I thought it was the first step to get all my content up and running and then I would kümmern.Falls the intricacies anyone any ideas as to what has you thing should I use to go forward let me know.Ich am hoping, not create a whole new theme - to have, although I would be for things adapt, a bit if be.

Again, if I start first, was different content management search systems (CMS), one of the reasons why I decided to go was with Drupal, because I heard from various people that it inspires more search engine friendly (SEF) compared to the other CMS's outdoor war.Dies me not because I was an SEO expert, but the opposite - because I knew, that SEO was valuable but don't know what it meant to optimize my pages.

I started this weekend an another a Drupal site. This one for my wife. In recent months has started a business, the an e-commerce site required. This gave me the perfect chance to try Ubercart and all Druapl's online shopping accessories. This Canyon Creek bags started! It was very easy to start, if your wife is a graphic designer a great site! We used a custom theme that you designed and I implemented in CSS and PHPTemplate. As I transfer my domain from GoDaddy, namecheap.com

I used always GoDaddy for my domain name registration. However, I find it really annoying that you by a bunch of tires every time a register one me make website directly.I hate to your extra "features" click No, you all you want me to verkaufen.Ich am also pretty upset with the way you run your advertisements.

So that you don't know anything about Drupals theming, well though not necessarily have to, it's always a good idea to know a little about working your cms. Drupal uses what they call themes to control the look of a site. The site is usually divided into some core components and the output is basically a theme. What this means, well your Drupal site is primarily your PHP files with some HTML and CSS. With a little knowledge of these you can control the overall appearance of the site. Drupal uses basically a model when you create each page out of the information in the database.These files keys control the appearance of comments, nodes, blocks and a few other areas of the site. edit these files can have a dramatic change in the appearance of your site.
